Western Magazine Awards Invites Submissions Until March 16, 2012

Western Magazine AwardsThe Western Magazine Awards Foundation (WMAF) honours and celebrates editorial excellence in Western Canadian magazine writing, photography, illustration and art direction. This is accomplished through an annual awards competition, a gala event where winners are announced and recognized with cash prizes, and The Magazine School, an educational program featuring WMA-winning work. The 30th Annual WMAs close on March 16, 2012.

SwerveCalgary Wins 2011 Digital Alberta Award for Best Digital StartUp

Alberta Digital StartUp AwardSwerveCalgary, a city lifestyle web portal and community news site published in-house by the Calgary Herald, won the Best Digital Start-up award at the 2011 Digital Alberta Awards. The site features original video, audio and photo galleries, and is designed to be a digital space for connecting Calgarians. The site was launched last December, having evolved from an original print publication of the same name over some six years of print production. Not resting on their laurels, the site publishers are already talking about the ‘next evolution’ of Swerve, as it continues to move from its print origins to become an full online media centre, with names like Swerve TV or Swerve Radio being included in the mix. Mom Magazine Now Published Exclusively Online

In February 2011, Mom Magazine published and edited by Tamara Plant, started publishing its two and a half year old printed magazine exclusively online thereby  joining a number of magazine publishers who have taken their magazines exclusively online e.g. unlimited magazine. According to Mom Magazine’s website, they are in production of a soon to be launched web based video series.
