Radio & Television News Directors Announce Winners of the RTDNA Canada Awards

RTNDA Awards 2013RTDNA Canada, The Association of Electronic Journalists celebrated excellence in electronic journalism by announcing the winners of the RTDNA Canada Awards on Saturday, June 15, 2013. The Awards honour the very best in programming, stations and newsgathering organizations in radio, television and on digital platforms in Canada. All submissions must be produced by a licensed Canadian broadcaster or news service and broadcast between January 1st and December 31st, 2012. Entries are divided into ‘regional’ or ‘network’ categories. A network entry is one that was produced for broadcast in more than one market. If an entry is produced with the intent that it was to be broadcast in one market, but was subsequently broadcast in other markets, it qualifies as a regional entry. And the winners are…

Auditions for CBC’s Four Rooms in Calgary on Saturday, June 29 in Calgary

Four RoomsThe producers of CBC’s new series Four Rooms are hitting the road to find Canada’s most unique and valuable objects. The cross – country audition tour, which kicked off earlier thi s month, is stopping in Calgary on Saturday, June 29 , followed by additional stops in Halifax, North Hatley, wrapping with a final stop in Toronto. If you have an item that you think may be worth big money, then come audition for the Four Rooms production team!  From the producers of CBC’s Dragons’ Den, Four Rooms comes to CBC TV in January 2014.

Alberta TV Station: OMNI TV’s Culture Avenue Showcases the Community

Culture Avenue OMNI TVCulture Avenue is a magazine program made up of approximately 10 to 12 reports on events and celebrations from various ethno-cultural communities in Alberta broadcast on OMNI TV in Alberta. Every week, Omni teams in Edmonton and Calgary attend eight to ten events per week. Omni promotes these events on Community Calendar, and in Culture Avenue the sights and sounds of these events are showcased. Episode One for instance has cultural celebrations covering a host of communities ranging from the Oktoberfest, to the Cheremosh Dancers to a Gujarati festival and a performance by an African-Canadian child artist.

Alberta TV Station: CJIL aka Miracle Channel, Lethbridge, Alberta

Miracle ChannelCJIL broadcasting under the name Miracle Channel is an English-language Christian-based television station based in Lethbridge, Alberta. It was the first over-the-air religious TV station in Canada. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) granted CJIL-TV’s broadcasting licence to founders Dick and Joan Dewert on April 4, 1995. The station debuted on January 14, 1996 broadcasting in southern Alberta, after Canada’s sixty-year ban on religious broadcasting was lifted. It expanded nationally on September 11, 2000.
