Shaw Communications Proposes to Launch National TV News Channel: Global News 1

shawtvIn filings to the CRTC at the end of June, Calgary-based Shaw Communications, which operates Global Television, claims it wants to launch a “hybrid local/national” English-language national news channel. Shaw’s submission included a brief outline of the plans as part of the CRTC’s formal consultation on the evolution of the Canadian broadcasting system. Shaw’s news channel proposal falls under “Category C” guidelines, which covers all-news channels like the CBC News Network, CTV News Channel, RDI and the Sun News Network.

Alberta TV Station: Global Lethbridge, Proud of their “Homefield Advantage”

Global TV LethbridgeGlobal Lethbridge’s News Hour claims to be “the most watched newscast in Lethbridge,” and “the only local newscast at 6pm”. Personalities include Southern Alberta’s only full-time agriculture and sports reporters. Others include Kimberly Tams, Elisha Rasmussen and Ian McDonald, all long time Lethbridge residents. Rogers Communications Sets Up Shop in Alberta at Rogers Place in Downtown Edmonton

Rogers Place EdmontonAt a media conference in Edmonton today, the Edmonton Oilers, Rexall Sports Corporation and Rogers Communications announced Rogers’ purchase of naming rights for the future home of the Edmonton Oilers. The new arena, set to open in 2016, will be called Rogers Place. This announcement follows on the heels of other significant announcements Rogers made this year.
