Touch Canada Broadcasting, wholly owned by Charles R. Allard, now operates six Christian radio stations in Alberta under three different brands: three Shine FM stations in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, two The Light AM stations in Calgary and Edmonton and a Reach FM station in Grande Prairie.

Alberta’s Newest Radio Station: CKSS at 88.1 FM – The One – “Parkland’s Best Country” in Stony Plain

CKSS Radio Stony PlainOn September 15, 2014 the CRTC approved an application by Blackgold Broadcasting to operate a commercial FM radio station to serve Spruce Grove and Stony Plain. Nine months later, on June 4, 2015, at 8:01, 88.1 – The One officially launched. The first song played was Rock This Country, signalling the station’s Country format. The official Industry Canada call sign is CKSS. 88.1 The One “Parkland’s Best Country” broadcasts local news and sports, local weather, and community information.

CBC Edmonton Wins Four National Investigative Awards from the Canadian Association of Journalists

CBC NewsCBC Investigates, the investigative unit of CBC Edmonton, has won four national awards for “Aura of Power,” the series of stories which exposed the personal and political misuse of public resources by former Alberta premier Alison Redford. The investigative unit – with reporters Charles Rusnell and Jennie Russell – won the Don McGillivray award for best overall investigative story from the Canadian Association of Journalists at its annual conference on June 6 after earlier winning in the community broadcast category.

Alberta Radio Station: Edmonton’s CFCW 790 AM Set to Move to 840 AM This Summer

r-cfcw radioEight years after a successful application to the CRTC change their frequency from 790 AM to 840 AM, Newcap Broadcasting has given the green light for CFCW to move on up Edmonton’s radio dial this August. CFCW is currently ranked #6 and the 3rd most listened-to AM station in the market according to the Fall 2014 Numeris data report. This ranking is an impressive achievement when you consider it only includes only half their listeners, those in the greater Edmonton area and not the other half of their listeners in rural Alberta.
