Alberta Radio Station – 630 CHED: Edmonton’s Breaking News and Conversation Station

CHED RadioCHED (630 AM) is a radio station broadcasting News/Talk/Sports format in Edmonton first launched in 1954 and now owned by Corus Entertainment. For a significant portion of its early history, CHED was Edmonton’s (and North America’s) most successful Top 40 station with a 40% share of the local listening audience. With the arrival of FM radio, it lost its listenership and in 1993 moved to News/Talk/Sports format and its current slogan is: Edmonton’s Breaking News and Conversation Station.

Corus Radiothon in Support of Stollery Children’s Hospital to Run January 19 – 20, 2016

Corus RadiothonThe 17th Annual Corus Radiothon is a live, two-day broadcast on CISN Country 103.9 from the lobby of the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton from 5:30am to 6:00pm during the two day broadcast. CISN’s sister stations, 92.5 Fresh Radio and 630 CHED, support Radiothon both off- and on-site before and throughout the broadcast. These stations generously donate air time, staff and programming to allow the community a glimpse into everyday life at this world-class Hospital.

Vegreville Gets Its First Radio Station on January 4, 2016: CKVG aka Country 106.5 FM

CKVG Radio VegrevilleCKVG-FM (C-106.5 Country) is an English language commercial radio station which broadcast a country music format on the frequency of 106.5 FM in Vegreville, Alberta. The station’s owner, CAB-K Broadcasting Ltd., received approval to operate the new station from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on February 20, 2014. It began testing on December 6, 2015 and launched on January 4, 2016. The station plans to provide 126 hours of local programming each week.

CRTC Calls for Applications for New Edmonton Radio Station Targeting Ethnic Communities

Radio DialThe CRTC has issued a call for applications for new commercial radio stations with a preliminary view that the market would be best served by proposals targeting ethnic communities. The Commission announced that it had received applications by VMS Media Group Ltd., Neeti P. Ray, on behalf of a corporation to be incorporated, Antoine Karam, on behalf of a corporation to be incorporated and South Fraser Broadcasting for broadcasting licences to operate commercial ethnic radio stations to serve Edmonton.

Christian-Radio-StationsAlberta boasts a number of radio stations that play predominantly Christian music: CIAM based out of Vermilion, CIHS in Wetaskiwin, CJCA and CJRY in Edmonton, CJLI and CJSI in Calgary, CJLT in Medicine Hat, CJGY in Grande Prairie, CKOS in Fort McMurray, and CKRD in Red Deer. Touch Canada Broadcasting, the largest operator of Christian radio stations in Alberta, launched the newest Christian station in Alberta on June 2015 with CJLI branded The Light broadcasting on 700 AM in Calgary.
