Edmonton & Calgary Radio PPMs for August 29, 2016 – November 27, 2016

radio-station-ratingsThe fall ratings for radio stations were released on December 7. In Edmonton: 102.3 NOW Radio rules the roost for A12+ posting an 11.9% share of hours tuned (down from 13.2%). NOW! Radio takes top spot for F25-54, delivering a 20.1% share (down from 20.3%). NOW also tops the list for M25-54 with a 12.4% share (down from 13.7%) followed by the Bear at 11.7% (down from 12.3%). For M18-34, Sonic leads the way posting a 15.2% (up from 14.8%). For F18-34 NOW! delivered an 18.8% (down from 20.0%).

CRTC Considers 11 Applications for New Radio Station(s) in Edmonton on September 27

new Edmonton radio stationsOn September 27, 2016, the CRTC held hearings  at the Radisson Hotel in Edmonton to consider 11 applications to operate  new ethnic commercial AM and FM radio stations, as well as an application for a new French language community radio station, to serve Edmonton. Several of the applications are competing for the same frequency. CRTC will announce its decisions on these applications in the next 6 to 9 months.

Wild 95.3, Calgary’s Newest Radio Station Announces On-Air Hosts Lineup

Wild 953 FM CalgaryWILD 953 launched at 10:15 on February 29th, and kicked off its life in Calgary with 10,000 songs in a row during the Month of March. Since its launch, the powers-that-be have been assembling a stellar on-air hosts lineup which was just announced. Program Director Mike Shannon said,“we’ve been listening to Calgarians as we build WILD 953, and they were clear in their desire for a very interac­tive, fun Country Radio Station. Every host joining our on-air team has been chosen for their ability to connect in a very sincere way with our listeners”.

The Association of Electronic Journalists Announces 2015 Prairie Region Award Winners

RTDNA AwardsOn April 23, RTDNA Canada announced 2015 Award winners to honour the best programs, stations and news gathering organizations in radio, television and digital in the Prairie provinces at an event held in Saskatoon. Gord Steinke from Global News Edmonton took home a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding service and continued excellence during the course of his career in broadcast journalism. CBC was the big winner in the radio division, in the TV division, it was Global.

WAB AwardsThe Conference kicks off with the annual WAB Golf Classic June 8 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. This year’s Classic promises to be a great day, rain or shine.
