Alberta Magazine: The Best of Routes Magazine Come Hell or High Water

Routes Magazine Since 2008, Routes Magazine found its way into the homes and businesses thoughout the foothills of southern Alberta, up until their High Level office was wiped out by last year’s devastating floods. Not to be discouraged, the team put together a special issue and are now offering it for sale. The commemorative issue features Southern Alberta luminaries such as musicians Amos Garrett and George Canyon and media personalities Darrel Janz  (former host Calgary’s CTV News),  Mike Holmes (Residential Contractor, TV Host)  and Terry Grant (star of Outdoor Life Network’s television series Mantracker. )

Alberta Magazine Design, Sales and Cultural Magazine Intensives in Calgary and Edmonton in August and September

publishing intensivesJoin the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) for three magazine publishing intensives, two in Calgary — a Sales Intensive on August 18 and a Cultural/Small Magazine Intensive on September 13 and in Edmonton a Design Intensive: Revitalizing Your Magazine’s Design from Process to Cover on August 19. Workshops cost $200 for non-members, run from 10 to 4:30pm and include lunch.

Alberta Media Personality: Jim Zang – A Publisher with Passion for Publishing and Good Luck

Jim-Zang-2014Jim Zang, Associate Publisher at Calgary-based Source Media Group, considers himself a lucky man. His luck started right out of university when his sociology degree couldn’t attract a job. Jim then enrolled in the Public Relations Diploma program at Mount Royal College. Several courses in journalism that first year and a savvy instructor identified Jim’s passion and talent for writing. In 1986 he landed his first job with Panorama Industrial Communications – a one-man PR and communications firm.
