Edmonton’s About to Enjoy a New Locally Produced Magazine

eq-logoJournalist, Producer and proud Edmontonian, Jeff Samsonow, has announced (by way of a tweet I just read from Mack Male who knows everything that’s going on in Edmonton), that he is about to launch a new magazine that will focus on local news, issues and discussions about Edmonton. It’s called Edmonton Quotient (or, EQ for short). Jeff promises that if you sign up for his newsletter, you’ll be the first to know when the new magazine officially launches.

Alberta Business MagazineThe Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta has been publishing the UAlberta Business Magazine twice a year since Fall 2004. Recently, it underwent a rebranding and redesign from which it emerged with a clean, modern, bold look, well illustrated and well designed pages and interesting, well written and informative content, even if you’re not one of their alumni. The Fall 2016 issue runs 36 pages with content presented in three departments — Live, Work, and Learn — in addition to feature stories such as the evolution of the School over the past 100 years along with class notes submitted by the alumni.

The Griff Magazine Features Hyperlocal Content With a Focus on Issues that Impact MacEwan University Students

For four years, the griff published a weekly newspaper, before transitioning into a monthly magazine in 2015. They publish six issues during the school year and update their website daily. The diverse, well-researched articles are written from a student perspective and the content is hyperlocal, with a focus on issues affecting the university and the greater downtown area. Burning Water Speculative/Science Fiction Magazine to Launch Second Issue on April 23 in Edmonton

Burning-Water-MagBurning Water is a fiction magazine in which speculative/science fiction and nature writing converge. Launched out of Edmonton, Alberta in December 2015 by Christine, Christopher and Kristen, Burning Water offers a space for an unexplored and contemporary era of nature writing. It includes short stories and narrative poetry that explore the natural world (ours or otherwise) in relation to technology, where that has taken us, and where it may take us yet. They are about to launch their second issue at a launch party to which everyone is invited to help them celebrate.

Alberta Magazine Award Winners Announced with New Trail, U of A’s Alumni Magazine, as 2015 Alberta Magazine of the Year

New Trail MagazineOn March 4, 2016 in Calgary the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association presented the Alberta Magazine Awards to an audience of writers, editors, art directors, publishers and other magazine lovers, including Mayor Naheed Nenshi, who punctuated his keynote address by thanking all for “telling our stories.” New Trail, the alumni magazine of the University of Alberta, took home 6 gold awards including the biggest prize, Magazine of the Year. New Trail has been nominated for 7 National Magazine Awards since 2012 and won Best Art Direction of a Single Article at last year’s NMAs.
