Alberta Bits MagazineAlberta Bits is the Voice of Equine Alberta and a membership-based magazine of the Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF). The magazine, published since 2009, is provided free of charge to their 13,000 members and published quarterly Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. The magazine has a high ratio of editorial content to advertising. The focus is on AEF members and their horses or activities. The AEF covers activities such as sport, recreation, breeds and industry, youth, health, welfare and safety. Demographics are broad-based. The magazine addresses its various sectors and updates AEF activities through feature articles and columns.

Edmonton Photographer Darren Greenwood Launches GarageShots Magazine

Garage Shots Magazine EdmontonGarageShots is a new Edmonton-based quarterly magazine dedicated to the art and style of hot rods and custom cars. Published by professional photographer Darren Greenwood, written and edited by Jeff Day, designed by Hot Nik Creative and printed by McCallum Printing, the 72 page premiere issue features three cars: a 1931 Ford Model A coupe, a 540-cubic-inch 1970 Chevrolet El Camino, and a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup with a Cadillac Escalade front end. Ten pages of the magazine’s first issue are devoted to the art of hood ornaments. Future issues promise to include race cars, motorcycles and trucks. Alberta Magazine Award Winners for 2012

Alberta Magazine Awards 2012The winners of the 2012 Alberta Magazine Awards were announced at the Alberta Magazine Excellence Gala on March 22, 2012 in Calgary. Showcase awards were handed out to seven Alberta magazines with Avenue Calgary taking the award for best digital presence. Achievement Awards were handed out with United Way’s WE Magazine awarded best new magazine in Alberta.

Calgary’s Jann Arden Bares All for her 50th Birthday for Canada’s Zoomer Magazine

Jann Arden Zoomer MagazineJann Arden is said to be one of the funniest women alive. In addition to her significant musical talents, she’s got insight and honesty that thrills. This month, in her bare-all tradition the soon to be 50 year-old singer-songwriter goes nude on the cover of Zoomer magazine, in a photograph taken by Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams. Jann on why she chose to do a shoot in the nude: “It appealed to my sense of frustration with body image in mainstream beauty and fashion, something I have always been passionate about: the fact that most of us normal women are marginalized and set aside for not looking a certain way.  Doing a nude shot would make a huge statement.  So, for the first time and perhaps the last, I took my duds off.  Scared?  Yes, but somehow relieved to be able to say, “Hey, women of the planet Earth.  Love thyself right now.  Don’t wait until it’s too late!”
