Alberta Magazine Winners at the National Magazine Awards

NMA AwardsThe National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) has announced the finalists of their 36th annual awards program, including 17 entries from AMPA-member magazines shortlisted in written and visual categories, as well as a finalist placement for the coveted Magazine of the Year for Calgary-based UPPERCASE magazine. Edmonton’s Eighteen Bridges is among the top-nominated magazines, with 10 finalists in written categories. Alberta Venture, Alberta Views, Avenue Calgary, New Trail and Swerve earned a place on the shortlisted nominations across written and visual categories.

Alberta Magazine: Art of the Peace – A Publication for the Visual Artist

Art of the Peace MagazineProducted by the Art of the Peace Visual Arts Society located in Grande Prairie, this spring they published their 10th anniversary issue of Art of the Peace. Since fall 2003, they have featured 22 artists who are living, working and creating art in the Peace Region, a geographic region that spans as far west as Fort St John, BC, as far north as Peace River, as far east as High Prairie, and as far south as Grande Prairie in Alberta. The Peace/Slave Lake basin is the largest in Alberta, spanning approximately 1/3 of the province. The magazine focuses on happenings in the art scene in the Peace Region, commercial and public galleries, museums, individual artists and everything in between.

Alberta Magazine Awards Winners Announced

Alberta Magazine AwardsWinners of the Alberta Magazines Showcase Awards were announced and Achievement Awards recipients were acknowledged by the province’s magazine industry. The gala evening, hosted by the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association at the Carriage House Inn on Thursday, March 14, was attended by magazine professionals from across the province. The event honours and celebrates the works of Alberta’s publishers, their editors, art directors, writers, photographers, illustrators, and freelance staff. Collectively these individuals bring passion and insight to our unique Alberta culture and ensure that Alberta voices and stories are shared and heard throughout the province and beyond our borders.

Alberta Magazine: New Tribe Magazine

New Tribe MagazineNew Tribe is a glossy 40 page monthly magazine published in Calgary since January 2001 and distributed throughout the city and surrounding communities. The goal of New Tribe is to be the voice of urban Aboriginal youth. Their mission is to promote a positive outlook on Aboriginal living in an urban setting by promoting and sharing information within the community. New Tribe aims to provide Aboriginal youth with stories of inspiration, and invite them to share their own stories and get involved in the community. They encourage youth to contribute to the magazine, whether it be artwork, fiction, poetry or journalism.
