CFHI aka Real Country 104.9 FM Now On-Air in Hinton

RC-HintonAlberta’s newest radio, CFHI at 104.9 FM, launched in Hinton in early February 2017. It joins Newcap Broadcasting’s “Real Country” branded sister stations in Westlock, St. Paul, Stettler, Lloydminster, Red Deer, High Prairie, Brooks, and Blairmore, Alberta.  Originally proposed and approved by the CRTC in February 2014, as a rock based music format targeting adults between the ages of 25 and 54, the station launched under the “Real Country” brand name and format.

Public Policy Forum’s Vision of a Better Future for Canadian Journalism

Media-CanadaConversations on the waning health of traditional media, the rise of fake news and the trouncing of print media by digital seem to be endless. In response, the Public Policy Forum (PPF) has laid out a series of recommendations in an effort to set out a better future for Canadian journalism. The recommendations, which include amending a section of the Income Tax Act to bring in an additional $300 to $400 million of revenue and removing digital advertising from the CBC.

Edmonton’s About to Enjoy a New Locally Produced Magazine

eq-logoJournalist, Producer and proud Edmontonian, Jeff Samsonow, has announced (by way of a tweet I just read from Mack Male who knows everything that’s going on in Edmonton), that he is about to launch a new magazine that will focus on local news, issues and discussions about Edmonton. It’s called Edmonton Quotient (or, EQ for short). Jeff promises that if you sign up for his newsletter, you’ll be the first to know when the new magazine officially launches.

The CRTC Approves Two New Radio Stations in Edmonton

radioAfter considering 10 applications at a hearing last September, the CTRC announced their approval on January 6, 2017 for two new radio stations in Edmonton, an ethnic commercial AM station to operate at 580 AM and a French language community FM station to operate at 97.9 FM. The new ethnic station is intended to serve a growing ethnic audience of Edmonton residents by offering a mix of spoken word and music programming targeting the South Asian community, as well as other ethnic communities.
