Corus-logo-rebrandCorus Entertainment has completed its $2.65 billion acquisition of Shaw Media, more than doubling Corus’s size. There are now 45 specialty TV services, 15 conventional TV channels; 39 radio stations; a global content business; and a portfolio of digital assets under the Corus brand. Corus also unveiled a redesigned corporate logo. The new executive leadership team has been reduced from 11 to nine people; six from Corus and three from Shaw Media under the leadership of President/CEO Doug Murphy.

Alberta-Media-NewsThe Jim Pattison Broadcast Group in Lethbridge has launched its new digital news portal, called The Country 95  Lethbridge news team handles the content. The portal is provided at  no charge and includes free local classifieds. Q99 Grande Prairie, purchased last year by the Jim Pattison  Broadcast Group, is set to move this weekend to JPBG’s existing  location at Big Country 93.1 XX FM. A team of Pattison engineers  has been busy this week taking care of the nuts and bolts of the  move.

CJSW Launches New Project Aiming to Document Calgary’s Rich Musical History

Calgary-musicCampus radio station CJSW 90.9 FM recently announced their Calgary Local Music Library project, which aims to compile an aural and visual history of Calgary music. The traveling installation will tour around Calgary Public Library branches. CJSW is searching for donations of CDs, posters, photographs and other paraphernalia from the local music community for the project. The installation is funded through a $30,000 Calgary Foundation grant to CJSW and the Calgary Public Library.

Renovated Marshall McLuhan House Now Open to the Public in Edmonton

Marshall McLuhanThe renovated Marshall McLuhan house located at 11342 – 64 Street now open to the public was originally built for McLuhan’s father in 1912, the year that the Highlands neighbourhood was named. One hundred years later, the Edmonton Arts Council acquired the house, which was being eyed up by a developer who wanted to build a larger home on the site. Designated a municipal historic resource in 2013, the house will now play host to an artist-in-residence program.
