The CRTC Approves Two New Radio Stations in Edmonton

radioAfter considering 10 applications at a hearing last September, the CTRC announced their approval on January 6, 2017 for two new radio stations in Edmonton, an ethnic commercial AM station to operate at 580 AM and a French language community FM station to operate at 97.9 FM. The new ethnic station is intended to serve a growing ethnic audience of Edmonton residents by offering a mix of spoken word and music programming targeting the South Asian community, as well as other ethnic communities.

Newcap Broadcasting Rebrands Eight Alberta Radio Stations Under “Real Country Network” Banner

newcap broadcastingNewcap Radio has re-branded eight of its Alberta country stations as the Real Country Network. Led by CCMA Station of the Year CKGY-FM Red Deer, the network includes CKSA-FM Lloydminster, CHSP-FM St. Paul, CKWB-FM Westlock, CKVH-FM High Prairie, CKSQ-FM Stettler, CIBQ-FM Brooks and CJPR-FM Blairmore. The stations will have live morning shows, but off-peak programming will be centralized out of Red Deer. Seven on-air and programming positions have been eliminated as a result.

Edmonton & Calgary Radio PPMs for August 29, 2016 – November 27, 2016

radio-station-ratingsThe fall ratings for radio stations were released on December 7. In Edmonton: 102.3 NOW Radio rules the roost for A12+ posting an 11.9% share of hours tuned (down from 13.2%). NOW! Radio takes top spot for F25-54, delivering a 20.1% share (down from 20.3%). NOW also tops the list for M25-54 with a 12.4% share (down from 13.7%) followed by the Bear at 11.7% (down from 12.3%). For M18-34, Sonic leads the way posting a 15.2% (up from 14.8%). For F18-34 NOW! delivered an 18.8% (down from 20.0%).
