media-movesMike Shannon is also out as program director at Wild 95.3. Heather Prosak signs on as the new Wild 95.3 program director and morning show host. Heather leaves Bell Media Winnipeg where she’s morning co-host and Program Director at 99.9 Bob FM (CFWM-FM). Jonathan Best joins the team as morning show co-host, Assistant Program Director and music director. Best was most recently with Newcap Edmonton. Now! (CKNO-FM) Edmonton Program Director Mark Hunter adds programming duties for Kool FM.

Media Moves in Alberta | October 2016

mark-iypeMark Iype took over as Editor-in-Chief for both the Edmonton Sun and Edmonton Journal on October 1 from Lorne Motley, who has taken a role as vice-president of editorial for Postmedia’s western region. Iype came to Edmonton in 2014, to oversee city and business coverage. Previously, Iype was a senior editor at the Telegraph-Journal in Saint John, N.B., and a reporter/editor at Canwest News Service in Ottawa.

Alberta Media Comings & Goings for January 15 to February 15, 2016

open-doorWhile journalists at media outlets in Alberta are always coming & going, there have never been so many going as there were this past month. Sadly, at the Calgary Herald, Calgary Sun, Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sun, on January 19, Postmedia cut 60 positions in order to combine newsrooms in locations where they publish two dailies. These cuts not only resulted in many experienced, talented and dedicated journalists pushed out the door in Alberta, but also resulted in distinctive voices quieted.

Jason-StrudwickJason Strudwick is now co-host of City Edmonton’s new Dinner Television news/talk/variety show. A retired four-time, multi-scoring NHL defenseman, Strudwick, finished his hockey career playing for his hometown team, the Edmonton Oilers. Following two decades of athletic experience, he found his new calling in the broadcast industry as host of a local Edmonton radio sports talk show. Now, he’s back in front of the camera.
