Kerrie Long, the festival director and her team, has curated a compelling line-up of films from all parts of the world, and in all genres — documentaries, short films, aboriginal, world, fiercely independent LGBTQ, Canadiana, sprinkled with a dash of Alberta’s own talented filmmakers.

Arden Theatre Presents Canadian Journalist Mohamed Fahmy on “Media in the Age of Terror” on October 1

mohamed-fahmyCanadians of many stripes have seen their freedom stripped while abroad. And it’s a topic Egyptian-Canadian Mohamed Fahmy knows firsthand. A former Al Jazeera English bureau chief, Fahmy was imprisoned in Cairo from 2013 to 2015 — which amounts to 438 days. He was locked up on the same wing as senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda and a few who fought with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Canadian Association of Journalists Converge on Edmonton for their Annual Conference on May 28 to 29, 2016

CAJ AwardsCBC Edmonton’s Mark Connolly will be the MC at the Canadian Association of Journalists’ conference banquet and 2015 CAJ Awards gala to be held in Edmonton on from May 28 to 29, 2016. The banquet and gala are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on May 28, the wrap-up to #CAJ16 being held at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel. The gala caps off two days of workshops and panel discussions focused on navigating the shifting landscape of journalism in Canada and around the world.

Western Association of Broadcasters to Hold 82nd Annual Conference from June 8 to 9 in Banff, Alberta

WAB AwardsThe Conference kicks off with the annual WAB Golf Classic June 8 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. This year’s Classic promises to be a great day, rain or shine.
