The Democracy Project: Journalism in the Age of Alt-Facts on October 20 – 22, 2017

Fighting-Fake-NewsIn the age of alt-facts, deeply researched reporting is more crucial than ever to the viability of an informed citizenry and a healthy democracy. From October 20 – 22 writers and journalists will gather at the Banff Centre to discuss practical next steps in the critical conversation around media and democracy. This summit is part of a five day intensive residency on Investigative Journalism presented by the Banff Centre.

AWNA to Hold 97th Annual AGM, Convention, Symposium and Alberta Newspaper Awards

Symposium-2017-webThe Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association’s 97th Annual Convention will be held this year from June 1 – 3 at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino in Calgary. The convention tees up (pun intended) on Thursday, June 1 with the Bing Crosby Memorial Golf Tournament.  On Friday, June 2 the Convention runs during the day and the Awards presentations that evening.  On Saturday June 3, the Professional Development Symposium runs throughout the day and the Presidents’ Banquet wraps things up in the evening.
