Calgary-based Sheri-D Wilson is a spoken-word artist whose performances have had audiences on their feet from New York to South Africa and from Balzac to Barcelona. She founded and is the artistic director and producer of Calgary’s Spoken Word Festival and founded the Spoken Word Program at the Banff Centre.

CKUA is Holding a Party in the Park on Saturday, May 25 in Edmonton

CKUA On Saturday, May 25 from noon to 5 pm, CKUA is hosting a free family party featuring live performances, special guests, tours of the storied music library and much more, both inside the studios at 9804 Jasper Avenue and in the park on the west side of the building. The party will happen come rain or come shine. Holger Petersen will be broadcasting Natch’l Blues live from the park, featuring a performance by Chicago blues legend Maurice John Vaughn and Grammy winner Donald Ray Johnson.

Michael Ondaatje to Read from Cat’s Table on March 21 | Edmonton

Michael OndaatjeThe MacEwan Book of the Year for 2012/13 is The Cat’s Table by Michael Ondaatje. On March 21, Michael Ondaatje will be on the MacEwan University campus reading from his recent novel, The Cat’s Table, taking part in an onstage interview with Michael Hingston, Books Columnist, Edmonton Journal, followed by a Q+A and book signing.  Since its inception in 1997, the MacEwan Book of the Year program has been guided by a committee of faculty, staff and students. Each year, a work of contemporary Canadian fiction is chosen by the committee from nominations by the university community. The committee bases its selection on the book’s appeal and its potential to generate interest and discussion at MacEwan University.
