Calgary Theatre Critics’ Awards to be Announced July 24, 2013

Calgary theatreCalgary Theatre Critics, Stephen Hunt of the Calgary Herald, Louis B. Hobson of the Calgary Sun and Jessica Goldman of CBC’s The Eyeopener and announced the nominees for the second annual Calgary Theatre Critics’ Awards. Nominees were chosen from any production performed in Calgary between August, 2012 and June, 2013, with the exception of Broadway Across Canada performances. The winners will be announced at a free public award ceremony at 8pm on July 24th at The Libertine Public House, 223 8 Ave SW.

Harcourt House Shines Light on Local Art Centres at Illuminate, Saturday, July 20, 2013

illuminate This year Harcourt House is hosting the second annual Illuminate event to shine some light on what the local art centres offer the community and to get more people involved and aware of the local art centres. This summer Harcourt is working in collaboration with four other art centres including: FAVA, Guru Digital Arts, the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, and E4C. This year, they are also introducing Pop-Up Illuminate; a week long exhibition showcasing light-based art. This show will be in Harcourt’s Main Gallery will be on display until July 25.

Four RoomsThe producers of CBC’s new series Four Rooms are hitting the road to find Canada’s most unique and valuable objects. The cross – country audition tour, which kicked off earlier thi s month, is stopping in Calgary on Saturday, June 29 , followed by additional stops in Halifax, North Hatley, wrapping with a final stop in Toronto. If you have an item that you think may be worth big money, then come audition for the Four Rooms production team!  From the producers of CBC’s Dragons’ Den, Four Rooms comes to CBC TV in January 2014.

Will FergusonMeet Giller Prize-winner Will Ferguson at the Arden Theatre in St Albert on June 14, 2013 as he reads from his work and talks about his life as a writer. An award-winning novelist and travel writer, Will Ferguson is the author of more than a dozen books ranging from budget travel guides to works of literary fiction. In 2012 his novel 419 was awarded $50,000 along with the Scotiabank Giller Prize, Canada’s highest literary award. The novel was also the first selection for the new CityLine Book Club this spring.
