Margaret Atwood Kicks Off WordFest 2013 in Calgary on October 14

WordFest 2013 CalgaryThe 2013 WordFest line-up has been revealed! Over 65 writers will be appearing at the 18th Annual Festival featuring artists from Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States. WordFest runs from October 14-20 in various venues across Calgary and Banff. Ushering in WordFest this year is a special Pre-Festival event with Amanda Lindhout on September 25 at the Glenbow ConocoPhilips Theatre. Margaret Atwood, the queen of Canadian literature kicks off the Festival on October 14 at 7pm at the John Dutton Theatre at the Calgary Public Library, with readings from MaddAddam, a moving and dramatic conclusion to her internationally celebrated dystopian trilogy about which has been said is “a love letter to literature“.

Free Screening: “Road to Saddle River” at Metro Cinema on September 29

Road to Saddle RiverThe Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA) is celebrating their 40th year by partnering with the Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) to provide a free screening of Road to Saddle River at Metro Cinema (8712-109 Street). Road to Saddle River, filmed in Alberta, is a comic odyssey of an East European butcher, the Cowboy Kid, heading west to find Saddle River. This event includes a reception, screening, and a Q&A with Director Francis Damberger and special guests. 6:30pm Reception, 7:00pm Screening, 8:50pm Q&A with Director Francis Damberger & Special Guests

Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival: Call for Entries until August 6, 2013

Banff Film FestivalFor over 37 years, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival has showcased a selection of films from around the world during a nine day Festival that takes place annually in Banff, Canada. A pre-selection committee narrows down over 350 entries to approximately 70 finalists. The selected films are then viewed by international film juries and shown to the public during the Festival. Entries for the 2013 Banff Mountain Film Competition are now being accepted. Entry deadline: August 6, 2013.  Enter your film into the Banff Mountain Film Competition and bring the magic of mountain places and cultures, and the adrenaline of exploration and adventure to an appreciative, international audience.
