AMPIA Celebrates Excellence in Alberta Film & Television Production & Personnel at the 42 Annual Rosie Awards

Rob-BrownThe 42nd Alberta Film & Television Awards were held at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary on May 7. Over 650 guests attended The Rosies Gala to honour the very best of Alberta’s production in the screen industry. The majority of this year’s Rosie winners were first-time nominees in their categories, including Best Actress Jordyn White (Blackstone), Best Screenwriter Benjamin Ross Hayden (The Northlander), Producers Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford for Best Web Series (Straight To Video: A B Movie Odyssey) and Chris Hsiung won for his first feature documentary Elder in the Making.

The Association of Electronic Journalists Announces 2015 Prairie Region Award Winners

RTDNA AwardsOn April 23, RTDNA Canada announced 2015 Award winners to honour the best programs, stations and news gathering organizations in radio, television and digital in the Prairie provinces at an event held in Saskatoon. Gord Steinke from Global News Edmonton took home a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding service and continued excellence during the course of his career in broadcast journalism. CBC was the big winner in the radio division, in the TV division, it was Global.

Canadian Association of Journalists Converge on Edmonton for their Annual Conference on May 28 to 29, 2016

CAJ AwardsCBC Edmonton’s Mark Connolly will be the MC at the Canadian Association of Journalists’ conference banquet and 2015 CAJ Awards gala to be held in Edmonton on from May 28 to 29, 2016. The banquet and gala are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on May 28, the wrap-up to #CAJ16 being held at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel. The gala caps off two days of workshops and panel discussions focused on navigating the shifting landscape of journalism in Canada and around the world.

Winners of 67th National Newspaper Award Nominations to be Announced at Gala in Edmonton on May 27, 2016

NNA-Wordmark-2015Toronto’s Globe and Mail leads all entrants in the 67th National Newspaper Awards competition with 19 nominations. Montreal’s La Presse has seven finalists, the Toronto Star six, the Winnipeg Free Press five, the Ottawa Citizen four, the Canadian Press three, and the Calgary Herald, Brandon Sun, Hamilton Spectator, Montreal Gazette, National Post, Reuters and the Saskatoon StarPhoenix with two each. Ten other organizations received one nomination each.

AMPIA Announces the Finalists for the 2016 Rosie Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Alberta’s Screen Industries

Rosie Awards AMPIAA total of 723 class and craft entries were submitted for consideration for the 42nd annual Alberta Film & Television Awards,. This year eighty-two industry professionals from across Canada adjudicated the submissions; in total 344 productions were submitted for consideration. In order to qualify for a ROSIE Award, a production must be produced or co-produced by an Alberta production company. For any craft person to be eligible he or she must have been a resident of Alberta for the 2015 calendar year.
