2017 Alberta Literary Awards Now Open for Submissions Until December 30, 2016

ab-lit-awards-logoThe Writers’ Guild of Alberta is preparing to celebrate another successful year with the 2017 Alberta Literary Awards. Writers from across Alberta and their publishers are invited to check out and submit to this year’s award categories. Submissions are evaluated on originality, creativity, and quality of writing, as well as appropriate fit within a category. The winners will be announced at the 2017 Alberta Literary Awards Gala in Edmonton in June 2017.

The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) Announces 2016 Jury & Audience Awards

filmsThis year’s festival Jury and Audience Awards chosen from an outstanding 2016 EIFF programme This year’s full festival line-up featured more than 150 films– short, documentary, dramatic and feature-length – curated from a record-breaking 3,000 submissions and hundreds of films solicited from distributors and other festivals. For the first time in EIFF history, jurors were flown to the festival and spent many hours at Landmark Cinemas watching all of the films in competition.

AWNA-AwardsThe Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association’s ‘Better Newspaper Award’ winners were announced on May 27, 2016 at the Westin Edmonton at the culmination of a conference co-hosted by Newspapers Canada,  Association de la presse francophone and the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association. The AWNA’s awards were announced in three categories: General Excellence in newspaper publishing, Awards of Excellence and Excellence in Photography.

AMPIA Celebrates Excellence in Alberta Film & Television Production & Personnel at the 42 Annual Rosie Awards

Rob-BrownThe 42nd Alberta Film & Television Awards were held at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary on May 7. Over 650 guests attended The Rosies Gala to honour the very best of Alberta’s production in the screen industry. The majority of this year’s Rosie winners were first-time nominees in their categories, including Best Actress Jordyn White (Blackstone), Best Screenwriter Benjamin Ross Hayden (The Northlander), Producers Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford for Best Web Series (Straight To Video: A B Movie Odyssey) and Chris Hsiung won for his first feature documentary Elder in the Making.
