This year, readers will have a tough job choosing between five outstanding books all written by authors residing in Alberta. Online voting is now open and you will have until midnight on May 31 to cast your ballot. Who will win Alberta’s only readers’ choice award? It’s up to you…vote today! AMPIA (Alberta Media Production Industries Association) Announces 2012 Rosie Award Winners

Alberta Media Production Industries AssociationThe 38th Annual Alberta Film and Television Awards (the Rosies) were handed out in Calgary on Saturday, May 11 – and what a show it was! Among the many highlights was Premier Alison Redford’s presentation of the AMPIA Award of Distinction to former Premier Peter Lougheed and his wife Jeanne. The other special award of the night was the Friend of the Industry Award, presented to Paul Roscorla and Paul Bronfman of William F. White . Other memorable moments included musical performances by Russell Broom and Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, as well as Andrea Menard’s beautiful tribute to those in our industry who have passed on in the last year.

2nd Annual Edmonton Music Award Winners Announced on April 28, 2012

Edmonton Music AwardsThe second annual Edmonton Music Awards were handed out on Saturday, April 28 at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton. Tupelo Honey was nominated for six awards and won for Album of the Year and Rock Album of the Year. The Joe’s Float of Flail won Rap/Hip Hop Album of The Year, Manuela’s The Golden Story EP was named R&B/Soul Album of the Year, while 100 Mile House’s Hollow Ponds earned Roots/Folk Album of the Year. Two honours were decided by online votes — Shelbi, an up ’n’ coming rock group, picked up Artist To Watch, while Killinger, a hard rock act, won the People’s Choice Award.
