AMPIA Announces 2013 Rosie Award Winners for Excellence in Film & TV Production in Alberta

Rosie Awards 2013Hell on Wheels, shot in Okotoks and starring Anson Mount and rapper Common, won six Rosies — including Best Dramatic Series, Best Production Designer/Art Director and Best Costume Designer. Rufus, a Calgary-made feature film about a teen vampire, was next with four Rosies, including Best Dramatic Feature Film and Best Director Drama Over 30 Minutes).  Three Edmonton-made TV series picked up two awards each: Hail Mary, which follows football players hoping to make the Eskimos, nabbed Best Documentary Series. The show’s Steve Katakami also won Best Editor (for Just Three Days). The series, which airs on Citytv, is produced by Anaid Productions.

Alberta Finalists for the Western Magazine Awards

Western Magazine AwardsThe finalists of the 31st annual Western Magazine Awards have been announced. Alberta Oil is a finalist for Trade Magazine of the Year; is up for Best Online Magazine; and Alberta Venture, Eighteen Bridges and UPPERCASE are among the finalists for Magazine of the Year – Alberta/NWT. Eighteen Bridge’s “The Populist” by Curtis Gillespie, “Why Knot?” by Max Fawcett and “Glorious and Free. Mostly” by Russell Cobb is up against fellow AMPA member Swerve’s “A Woman’s Place is at the Altar” by Malwina Gudowska for Gold Award Best Article – Alberta/NWT) as well as Yellowknife-based Up Here’s “Where have you gone, Annie Pootoogook?” by Jasmine Budak.

Alberta Magazine Winners at the National Magazine Awards

NMA AwardsThe National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) has announced the finalists of their 36th annual awards program, including 17 entries from AMPA-member magazines shortlisted in written and visual categories, as well as a finalist placement for the coveted Magazine of the Year for Calgary-based UPPERCASE magazine. Edmonton’s Eighteen Bridges is among the top-nominated magazines, with 10 finalists in written categories. Alberta Venture, Alberta Views, Avenue Calgary, New Trail and Swerve earned a place on the shortlisted nominations across written and visual categories.
