Mark-MeerOn June 26, the 30th Annual Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards will celebrate excellence in professional theatre in Edmonton. The Sterling Awards were created in 1987 to enhance the profile of live professional theatre and bring about a greater awareness of the performing arts in Edmonton. This year, there are a total of 113 nominations in 24 categories, with nods such as Outstanding Fringe Performance by an Actor, Outstanding Musical Director and Outstanding New Play.

Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association Announces Alberta Newspaper Awards for 2016

AWNA-AwardsOn May 27, The Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association announced the winners of the ‘Better Newspaper Awards’ at its annual conference. In its category, the St Albert Gazette was the big winner of the night with six first place wins, two second place and five third place wins. Taber Times was the big winner in its category with three first place and one second place wins. Chris Colbourne, shooting for the St. Albert Gazette, walked away with three photography awards. Alberta Magazines, Writers & Designers Shine at 40th Annual National Magazine Awards

Rudy-WeibeThis year, 197 Canadian magazines from coast to coast to coast in English and French, print and digital entered the best of their editorial and design to the National Magazine Awards, submitting the work of more than 2000 writers, editors, photographers, illustrators, art directors and other creators. NMAF’s 112 volunteer judges nominated a total of 202 submissions from 75 different Canadian magazines for awards in 25 written, visual, integrated and special categories.

Coverage of Fort McMurray Wildfires Inspire 2016 National Newspaper Award Winners

NNA-WordmarkThe Edmonton Journal, Edmonton Sun and Fort McMurray Today were honoured in the breaking news category for their coverage of last May’s Alberta wildfire and the evacuation of nearly 90,000 people from Fort McMurray and the surrounding area. Fort McMurray Today’s staff were among those ordered to leave, continuing to report on the disaster even as they fled to safety.

AMPIA Announces the 2017 Rosie Award Winners for Excellence in Film, TV & Multimedia Productions in Alberta

The 2017 nominations for the Alberta Film and Television Awards, dubbed the Rosies, were announced in downtown Calgary on April 29 by the Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA), with Calgary  production companies Joe Media Group and SEVEN/24 Films tied for the most finalists with 17 each.
