The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) Announces the 2017 Jury Awards & Oscar Qualifying Short Films

Film-AwardsThe Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) announced this year’s Jury Awards, chosen from an outstanding 2017 EIFF program  This year’s full festival line-up featured more than 150 films – short, documentary, dramatic and feature-length – curated from a record-breaking 4,000 submissions.This year’s two Grand Jury Short Film winners are now eligible for OSCAR consideration. The Award Winning Short Films screen on Saturday, October 7 at 10am in Landmark Cinemas.

Calgary’s Theatre Community Announces Betty Mitchell Award Winners

Celebrating the past season on the eve of the new, the Betty Mitchell Awards recognizef excellence in Calgary’s professional theatres at a gala in Calgary on August 21. Now in its 20th year, juries have convened, deliberated, and have chosen these recipients from among the 90 nominees in 18 categories including those for acting, directing, design as well as the award for the best new play of the year.

Mark-MeerOn June 26, the 30th Annual Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards will celebrate excellence in professional theatre in Edmonton. The Sterling Awards were created in 1987 to enhance the profile of live professional theatre and bring about a greater awareness of the performing arts in Edmonton. This year, there are a total of 113 nominations in 24 categories, with nods such as Outstanding Fringe Performance by an Actor, Outstanding Musical Director and Outstanding New Play.

Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association Announces Alberta Newspaper Awards for 2016

AWNA-AwardsOn May 27, The Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association announced the winners of the ‘Better Newspaper Awards’ at its annual conference. In its category, the St Albert Gazette was the big winner of the night with six first place wins, two second place and five third place wins. Taber Times was the big winner in its category with three first place and one second place wins. Chris Colbourne, shooting for the St. Albert Gazette, walked away with three photography awards.
