68th Annual National Newspaper Award Nominees Announced on March 20, 2017

National-Newspaper-AwardsToronto’s Globe and Mail leads all entrants in the 68th National Newspaper Awards competition with 19 nominations. Montreal’s La Presse has nine finalists, the Toronto Star eight, the Canadian Press five, and the Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Winnipeg Free Press each have three nominations in the competition, which is open to daily newspapers, news agencies, as well as online news sites approved for entry by the NNA Board of Governors.

AMPA Announces the 2017 Alberta Magazine Awards Finalists

ampa-conference-2017-logoThe Alberta Magazine Publishers Association announced the showcase category finalists for the 2016-17 Alberta Magazine Awards. Nearly 300 pieces of work were submitted in 21 categories, and were adjudicated by more than 60 industry experts from across North America. Congratulations to the magazine publishers and vast number of contributors who pour their time, talent and creative energy into producing exceptional Alberta magazines. Award winners to be announced at a Gala in Calgary on March 16.

2017 Alberta Literary Awards Now Open for Submissions Until December 30, 2016

ab-lit-awards-logoThe Writers’ Guild of Alberta is preparing to celebrate another successful year with the 2017 Alberta Literary Awards. Writers from across Alberta and their publishers are invited to check out and submit to this year’s award categories. Submissions are evaluated on originality, creativity, and quality of writing, as well as appropriate fit within a category. The winners will be announced at the 2017 Alberta Literary Awards Gala in Edmonton in June 2017.

The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) Announces 2016 Jury & Audience Awards

filmsThis year’s festival Jury and Audience Awards chosen from an outstanding 2016 EIFF programme This year’s full festival line-up featured more than 150 films– short, documentary, dramatic and feature-length – curated from a record-breaking 3,000 submissions and hundreds of films solicited from distributors and other festivals. For the first time in EIFF history, jurors were flown to the festival and spent many hours at Landmark Cinemas watching all of the films in competition.

AWNA-AwardsThe Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association’s ‘Better Newspaper Award’ winners were announced on May 27, 2016 at the Westin Edmonton at the culmination of a conference co-hosted by Newspapers Canada,  Association de la presse francophone and the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association. The AWNA’s awards were announced in three categories: General Excellence in newspaper publishing, Awards of Excellence and Excellence in Photography.
