Alberta’s Multi-Media Production Industries Get Welcome Funding Boost

AMPIA logoThe Alberta Multi-Media Development Fund (AMDF) recently announced a boost for Alberta’s  multi-media production industries. Minister of Culture and Community Services, Heather Klimchuk (pictured below), said changes to the fund will support thousands of Albertans by creating more employment and will reinvigorate the production community across the province. The aim of the revamped fund is to ensure the province can play a role in an increasingly competitive market. AMPIA & Digital Alberta Offer Two Day Digital Storytelling Workshop on November 26 & 27, 2011

AMPIA logoThe Alberta Media Production Industry Association (AMPIA) in partnership with Digital Alberta offers an exclusive two-day event to learn, discuss and collaborate on the convergence of digital media with conventional film and television. Narrative story telling has many platforms to engage audiences – film, television, online, mobile, gaming and social networks. This event will bring together content creators, producers, service providers, technologists and story tellers. Topics will address understanding the landscapes and how to navigate the terrains for both the digital media and film and television industries; legal issues around intellectual property and copyright laws, and fund-development strategies from both the public and private sector. Attendees will learn from case studies on interactive content and multi-platform media delivery channels as well as connect through “speed-dating” for creative and business collaboration. AMPIA Presents Heartland’s Shaun Johnston with the Billington Award in Calgary on November 5

Shaun JohnstonShaun Johnston from the made-in-Alberta tv series Heartland will be presented with the Billington Award at a luncheon at the Westin Hotel in Calgary on November 5. The award is presented hearch year to an individual who has made an invaluable contribution to Alberta’s production community, and celebrates those individuals who, like him, inspire us all with their vision, passion and dedication. Shaun’s character Jack on Heartland is considered “the rock of Heartland, anchoring the family through all the ups and downs of their increasingly complicated lives.”

Calling All Independent Media Producers in Alberta

Canadian Media Production Industry AssociationThe Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) is travelling the country to support the roll-out of the Terms of Trade agreement – all elements of the deal come into effect August 1st 2011.  The agreement applies to all independently produced projects developed and commissioned by Astral, Bell Media (CTV), Corus, Rogers and Shaw Media.  The CMPA successfully negotiated the historic Terms of Trade deal that redefines the relationship between producers and broadcasters. The deal applies to the entire life cycle of a show – from first pitch, through to development, production and broadcast on all platforms. Read more »

2011 Alberta Film & Television Awards Finalists Announced

Edmonton filmmaker Josh Miller seems to have a winner on his hands with, Anash, his latest television project and hopes to see the same success with his next movie, scheduled for an Edmonton shoot later this year. Miller plans to start filming the low-budget feature film, Darren Gets Whacked, sometime in August, with Jason Mewes in the starring role. “Mewes is Jay in the Silent Bob movies, kind of the stoner character,” Miller said. “It’s that kind of movie.”  CBC’s Calgary-based family show Heartland has landed 10 Rosie nominations, tying with Edmonton animated series Anash and the Legacy of the Sun-Rock, Cycle II for the most nods this year.
