Alberta Music Industry AssociationWhile researching a project for a client so I could design a Facebook campaign for an upcoming event, I was rewarded for my efforts when I came across the website for the Alberta Music Industry Association. Not only is it fresh, clean and inviting, it includes an very well presented online directory of musicians, recording studios, venues, sound and publicity services and related businesses in Alberta. The directory is fully searchable by artist, by specific industry e.g. recording studio, CD manufacturing, publicity, etc. , by venue and by festival. If you select the venue category you are directed to a short informational listing on each of the major music venues in Alberta such as location, venue size, sound system details and contact information. If you select the festival category, you are directed to a page that includes listings on the major music festivals in Alberta.  Read more »

Calling All Independent Media Producers in Alberta

Canadian Media Production Industry AssociationThe Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) is travelling the country to support the roll-out of the Terms of Trade agreement – all elements of the deal come into effect August 1st 2011.  The agreement applies to all independently produced projects developed and commissioned by Astral, Bell Media (CTV), Corus, Rogers and Shaw Media.  The CMPA successfully negotiated the historic Terms of Trade deal that redefines the relationship between producers and broadcasters. The deal applies to the entire life cycle of a show – from first pitch, through to development, production and broadcast on all platforms. Read more »

Alberta Book Publishing Award Winners Announced on June 11, 2011

The Writers Guild of Alberta (WGA) and the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) announced the winners of the 2011 Alberta Book Publishing Awards, the Alberta Literary Awards, and the highly anticipated Alberta Readers’ Choice Award tonight. About 250 people attended the 2011 Alberta Book Awards Gala, a joint celebration that celebrated excellence and innovation in Alberta writing and book publishing.
Journalist Brenda Finley gave an entertaining keynote address, and many authors and publishers were celebrated for their achievements during the past year. Read more »
