Radio Stations in Alberta
There are more than 150 radio stations broadcasting in Alberta. Nova Scotia based Newcap Radio is Alberta’s largest radio broadcaster with 33 stations throughout Alberta and 76 stations across Canada. Montreal based Astral Media is Canada’s largest radio broadcaster with 83 radio stations in eight provinces, including 8 stations in Alberta and, like their closest competitors, Corus/Shaw Media, CTVglobemedia and Rogers, is a major player in premium and specialty television in Canada. Alberta based CARE-K Radio Broadcasting, Touch Broadcasting and three or four single station independents operate 20 Christian stations in Alberta. Alberta based Aboriginal Multimedia Society, Toronto based Aboriginal Voices and the Dene Communications Society share the aboriginal radio dial. Public broadcasters, CBC Radio AM and FM and Alberta based CKUA broadcast throughout Alberta. Toronto based Corus Entertainment, a division of Shaw Media with head offices in Calgary, Toronto and Winnipeg, operates 9 stations in Alberta including two all-news stations, both in Edmonton. Toronto based Rogers operates the only all-news station in Calgary with 660 AM along with 18 other stations in Alberta. Toronto based CTVglobemedia (soon to be renamed Bell Media) owns and operates 33 radio stations, two of them in Edmonton and Calgary. Manitoba based Golden West Broadcasting has 6 stations in Southern Alberta. Regina based Harvard operates 4 stations in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton and Fort McMurray. Vancouver based Jim Pattison Group operates 10 stations throughout Alberta.Saskatchewan based Rawlco Radio operates three stations, one in Calgary and two in Edmonton. Alberta based Clear Sky Radio operates classic hits stations in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. These multi-station broadcasters and other independent stations share the radio dial in Alberta.
