Why Steve Gilmore Quit His Job as Bureau Chief for CTV Quebec City
Scott Gilmore, who was born in Edmonton, quit is job as legislative Bureau Chief for CTV Quebec City last week in order to found the Peace Dividend Trust, a New York-Ottawa based nonprofit organization. His reasons for the abrupt change in his career are detailed on his blog and then taken up up others online. He writes: “Life is short. It’s ‘go to bed worrying about your English final, wake up with grey hair and three kids short.’ Shorter yet are the “productive years,” that period in your life when you can make a difference, when your knowledge, experience and influence add up to something. Those productive years are fabled. They represent the Promised Land where, one day, we’ll start doing something meaningful. I know an investment banker. “One day,” he said, “I’m going to get out and do something worthwhile, make a difference.” Read more 
Calling All Independent Media Producers in Alberta
The Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) is travelling the country to support the roll-out of the Terms of Trade agreement – all elements of the deal come into effect August 1st 2011. The agreement applies to all independently produced projects developed and commissioned by Astral, Bell Media (CTV), Corus, Rogers and Shaw Media. The CMPA successfully negotiated the historic Terms of Trade deal that redefines the relationship between producers and broadcasters. The deal applies to the entire life cycle of a show – from first pitch, through to development, production and broadcast on all platforms. Read more
