With the exception of one show, all of CHQR’s weekday programming is produced in-house.

Gord Gillies – Host, Morning News, Weekdays from 5:30am to 9:30am
Gord Gillies is best known for his varied and diverse 25 year career with Global News in Calgary. His work as a journalist and a story teller have set him up perfectly for his new home on the radio. He’s a graduate of the Radio and Broadcasting Arts program at Humber College in Toronto.A supporter of many charitable initiatives, Gillies volunteers with The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Salvation Army, Hull Child and Family Services.
Danielle Smith – Host, Danielle Smith Show
As a University of Calgary graduate with degrees in economics and English, Danielle has had a lifelong interest in Alberta public policy. Most recently she was a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Highwood, leader of the Official Opposition, and leader of the Wildrose Party. Before entering politics, was an editorial writer and columnist at the Calgary Herald, the host of Global Sunday, and also two programs on CKMX 1060 AM radio in Calgary,
Rob Breakenridge – Host, Afternoons
Rob Breakenridge is the host of Afternoons on Newstalk 770, weekdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Rob brings over 20 years of experience in the radio industry, having joined NewsTalk 770 radio in 2003 after six years with 630/CHED radio in Edmonton. Rob has been a weekly columnist with the Calgary Herald for nine years, and has also been a contributor to the National Post. Rob lives in Airdrie with his wife, their two kids, and dog.
Angela Kokott – Host, Calgary Today
Angela Kokott hosts Calgary Today on Newstalk770 weekdays from 3 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. Angela has been a broadcaster in Calgary since 1984. Prior to hosting Calgary Today, she was part of Global News Morning for 18 years. Angela Kokott has her finger on the pulse of the city. Angela enjoys running, cycling and swimming. She’s a graduate of SAIT, having earned a diploma in broadcast journalism.
Jock Wilson – Host, Sportstalk
A native of Pouce Coupe, BC, Jock graduated from high school in Dawson Creek. He moved to Calgary in 1981 to take the broadcasting course at Mount Royal College. He has been involved in the Calgary sports media scene for over 35 years. Jock is currently the host of Sportstalk on Newstalk 770 and is the host of Calgary Stampeder Football radio broadcasts and a fill in host for The Morning News and Calgary Today programs.
Andrea Montgomery – Producer. Afternoons with Rob Breakenridge
Andrea is a born and raised Calgarian. She started her career at smaller radio stations in southern Alberta where she anchored news casts and reported on local news and events in the communities of Okotoks, High River and Airdrie. Since 2015 she has been producing and planning nearly every show on Newstalk 770. Currently she produces and organizes Afternoons with Rob Breakenridge and hosts You Missed This on Sundays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Peter Watts – Host, Alberta Morning News
A graduate of Queen’s University, Peter Watts began his broadcast career at the student radio station, CFRC, in 1971. He graduated with a degree in history and politics in 1975. Since July of 1998, he has been the producer and host of The Alberta Morning News, a morning show broadcast every Saturday and Sunday on the Corus talk radio stations in Calgary and in Edmonton.
John Himpe – Reporter
John Himpe’s career began at the age of 16 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After high school, he honed his craft at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and then worked throughout Saskatchewan in television and radio newsrooms, spending more than a decade with News Talk Radio in Regina and Saskatoon as a journalist, producer, manager and show host. He joined News Talk 770 in January 2017.
