Michael Hingston announced he is stepping down as the Journal’s books columnist to focus on freelance opportunities,

Andrea Sands is leaving the Journal‘s education beat to work as a communications consultant for the Edmonton Public School Board and Jana Pruden, formerly their crime reporter, has announced she is joining the Globe and Mail. She’ll remain here in Edmonton and continue writing about crime and policing for the Globe’s Alberta bureau.

Postmedia is also hiring reporters. Paige Parsons was hired back by Postmedia as reporter for the Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sun. She worked for the Journal from May through December last year as reporter for the City section reporting breaking news, including the shooting that led to a police officer’s death, a massive condo fire and a significant pipeline spill, the effect of a new prostitution law on Edmonton sex workers and the fallout of a shortage of agriculture workers. Emma Graney formerly from the Regina Leader-Post has also joined the Edmonton Journal/Edmonton Sun editorial team. See other positions they are seeking to fill below.

Kristen Oelschlagel is the new editor at the Bonnyville Nouvelle/Lakeland Regional. She is a journalism graduate from Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario.

Aaron Streck, formerly from Global Saskatoon is now a reporter with Global Edmonton. He got his start at Newcap TV in Lloydminster in the master control department and worked his way up the ladder to local weekend news anchor to late night sports anchor before moving on to Global News as a cameraman in 2011.

Brayden Haydamack is now hosting late night and weekends at Virgin Edmonton. He was most recently with Q99 in Grand Prairie.

Len Theusen is retiring after a long career in local media, at 630 CHED, K-LITE (Capital FM), and most recently as an account rep at The Bear.

Wild FM 95.3 FM, Calgary’s newest radio station announced its new host lineup: Christy Farrell and Fraser Tuff share hosting duties for the morning show, Ash Hinton hosts Midday, Samantha Stevens the Drive Home and Casey Clarke and Roo Phelps the weekday evenings.
