Canadian-Screen-Awards-2016Today the nominees for the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards were announced including these from Alberta: Blackstone produced by Edmonton’s Prairie Dog Film & Television nominated for Best Dramatic Series. Calgary’s Young Drunk Punk (Seven24 Films) and Edmonton’s Tiny Plastic Men (Mosaic Entertainment) are both nominated for Best Comedy Series. Tiny Plastic Men is also nominated for Best Writing in a Comedy Program, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role.

Calgary native Paul Gross’ modern war film Hyena Road netted eight nominations for cinematography, costume design, editing, makeup, overall sound, sound editing, visual effects and art direction. The Alberta-shot western Forsaken, starring Kiefer and Donald Sutherland was nominated for five awards. Ken Rempel, from Calgary, shares a nomination with Kathy McCoy and Erik Gerlund for best art direction. Calgarians Gail Kennedy, Rochelle Parrent and Jojo Preece received a nomination for achievement in makeup.
