Rob Lightfoot, formerly the publisher of Vue Weekly, Edmonton’s alternative newspaper, and his three stalwart staff work tirelessly to publish a slick and well-design lifestyle publication called T8N Magazine in St. Albert. First released this past December, Lightfoot and his team are filling a known gap in the St. Albert media marketplace. T8N Magazine is published 12 months a year and promises to prompt conversation and “stir up some hornets’ nests” on local issues.
Drawing inspiration from Edmonton’s Avenue Magazine, Airdrie’s Airdrie Life and Victoria’s Boulevard, Lightfoot’s T8N Magazine is sure to change the landscape of conversation in St. Albert.
The value of his monthly publication is all in the readers. For Lightfoot, connecting with the community is paramount in order to be able to address the topics that he feels reflect what residents are thinking about. “I want to be the one that starts the conversation and that starts the most in-depth investigation of that conversation.” Recognizing the diversity of St. Albertan opinions, he wants T8N “to challenge people in their conversations; challenge people in their opinions.”
Two interesting articles in the April 2015 issue are particularly relevant to readers in St. Albert. A two page spread features a chronology and photographs of St. Albert’s Perron Street from 1800s to the present day. While the rest of the articles featuring food, fashion and the like, could be published in any lifestyle magazine, all the advertising comes from local businesses.
Another home-grown article features Nora Furber designer of Monjeloco Jeans, made famous by the Columbian born and St Albert resident during her two presentations on Dragon’s Den and 2013 and again in 2014. Furber has turned her small St Albert boutique into a destination store. Her signature “lift-the-bum” and “tuck-the-tummy” jeans has not only been embraced by women across Canada and abroad but has also created a loyal following of jean addicts looking to lift their bum and their spirits.
Not only is T8N Magazine a great place to get the word out in St Albert, they are actively seeking new members for their team. They are looking to add a Sales Representative to their team, so if you’ve always wanted to try your hand at the publishing industry, now is your chance! They are looking for someone who is passionate about customer service and relationship building with clients, and wants to do creative things.
