Rick Gustavsen is a 39-year veteran of the Alberta motion picture industry and founding member of the Film and Video Arts Society – Alberta. As an independent documentarian, he has shot footage on every continent in the world except Antarctica. At last count, he had seven features under his belt and more than a thousand short films, videos and alternative art project. Come and help us celebrate Rick’s lifetime commitment to FAVA and some of his many accomplishments!

To be eligible to be nominated, a film must have played at three A-list international film festivals. FAVA FEST brings you this rare opportunity to see the world’s best in cinematic non-fiction, in the screening of the 2014 nominated short films.

FAVA Gala

FAVA rolls out the red carpet and celebrates in style. Get dressed to the nines and raise a glass to independent media art. They’re giving away $17,000 in cash awards and commissions and $11,500 in services to their membership. The gala starts with a special live collaboration between local filmmaker Wes Miron and classical pianist Cameron Watson commissioned by FAVA and the Alberta College Conservatory of Music with the support of the Universiade ’83 grant.
