Culture Avenue OMNI TVCulture Avenue is a magazine program made up of approximately 10 to 12 reports on events and celebrations from various ethno-cultural communities in Alberta broadcast on OMNI TV in Alberta. Every week, Omni teams in Edmonton and Calgary attend eight to ten events per week. Omni promotes these events on Community Calendar, and in Culture Avenue the sights and sounds of these events are showcased. Episode One for instance has cultural celebrations covering a host of communities ranging from the Oktoberfest, to the Cheremosh Dancers to a Gujarati festival and a performance by an African-Canadian child artist.

Culture Avenue aims to enable ethnic communities to see themselves as they celebrate culture and have a voice of their own. With the entire program in English, the different cultural communities are able to see each other’s events in a language they can understand, and experience the amazing cultural diversity of Alberta.

Jenny Yu is the On-Air Host of OMNI’s Community Calendar and Culture Avenue when not working for the Federal Government of Canada in Public Works and Government Services.

Fluent in Chinese, English, Spanish, and (some) French, her favourite language remains the universal idiom of music. Jenny’s passion in singing has helped her garner accolades from various competitions, and has paved way to her involvement in the community.

Renowned for her involvement in a wide spectrum of charitable events and community initiatives, she is active as a director on the board of the Calgary Chinese Merchants Association, and is a Child Sponsorship & Love Ambassador for World Vision Canada.

Born in Venezuela, of Chinese descent, but studied in Canada; with her background in Public Relations, Jenny thrives on challenging herself in different aspects of life while embarking on the continued quest to be inspired by the embracing diversity around her.

ONNI TV is operated by Rogers Media who also operates CKER, the multicultural radio station in Edmonton, as well as more than 50 radio stations across Canada.

Culture Avenue airs on Saturday at 10:30pm and repeats on Sundays at 6pm. See more info and past episodes  at www.omniab.ca
