The Alberta Media Production Industry Association (AMPIA), the Writers Guild of Canada and the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) will host a coming together of Alberta television, film and digital platform producers with writers and publishers. This is a unique opportunity to further the collaboration of written content with potential screen adaptations and expand Alberta storytelling across multiple platforms.
Writing for Television “Blackstone” co-creator and head writer Ron Scott will discuss his creative process as a writer working in television, along with Edmonton novelist, playwright and screenwriter Conni Massing, who will also discuss making the move from ‘traditional’ writing to film and television.
Pitch Session with Jan Miller World renowned Pitch specialist Jan Miller will bring her award-winning ‘Pitcher Perfect’ Workshop to Edmonton. For writers, producers and content creators of all stripes and sizes! Five lucky participants (Application Details) will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Jan following this session, and will present their pitches to a panel of experts on Sunday (Pitch Fest/New Title Showcase).
Where Should My Story Live? Representatives from the BPAA, WGC, film and TV Producers and internet strategists evaluate story ideas and discuss how they would adapt them to their own media (Books, Magazines, TV series, Feature films, websites, etc).
Master Class with Andrew Wreggitt How do you make a living as a writer in Film and Television? What is the role of the show-runner on a dramatic series? What is different about writing a TV movie or Feature vs. a series? Which is easier: drama or comedy? Award-winning screenwriter Andrew Wreggitt has done it all!
Show me the Money A panel session designed to answer the nagging question asked by writers everywhere – how do I make money doing this? Our panel will guide you through the red tape and hidden mine fields of their respective funding programs.
Pitch Fest/New Title Showcase Titles from FIVE (5) writers (Application Details) will be presented/pitched to a panel of writers, funders and producers. Each successful applicant will have 5 minutes each to ‘pitch’, followed by 10 minutes of question and answer from the experts. Applicants are chosen in advance by AMPIA and the BPAA.
