The News From HereThe Art Gallery of Alberta presents 36 established and emerging artists from nine Alberta communities in The News From Here: The 2013 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art. Guest-curated by Nancy Tousley, this exhibition explores the theme of post-regionalism in relation to art production in Alberta. The 2013 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art is one of the AGA’s most diverse exhibitions, featuring an extensive film, video and performance program, in addition to painting, sculpture and installation. The exhibit runs from January 26 – May 5, 2013. Curator’s Introduction on January 25 at 6:00pm.

Alberta Biennial artists are: Trevor Anderson, Kyle Armstrong, Noel Bégin, Elisabeth Belliveau, Richard Brown, Eric Cameron, Bruno Canadien, Sherri Chaba, Chris Cran, Alysha Creighton, DaveandJenn, Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, Mackenzie Frère, Sarah Fuller, Jason de Haan and Miruna Dragan, Faye HeavyShield, Terrance Houle, Gary James Joynes, Kristopher Karklin, Emily Luce, Eric Moschopedis and Mia Rushton, Robyn Moody, Pamela Norrish, Gabrielle Paré,  Laura St. Pierre, Jewel Shaw, Taras Polataiko, Larissa Tiggelers, Laura Vickerson, Jennifer Wanner, Donna White and Maria Whiteman.

Nancy Tousley, the exhibit curator, is an award-winning senior art critic, arts journalist and independent curator, who received the Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts for outstanding contribution in 2011.Tousley was art critic of the Calgary Herald for more than 30 years and the first Critic-in-Residence at the Alberta College of Art + Design. She has been a contributing editor to Canadian Art magazine since 1986. Her writing has appeared in magazines such as Artscanada, Vanguard, Parachute, Border Crossings and Canadian Art since the early 1970s, and in more than 30 public art gallery and museum catalogues.Tousley is also an accomplished curator, having organized exhibitions for the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Glenbow Museum and the Art Gallery of York University, among others.

Her work has been recognized with many prestigious awards including the Board of Governors of the Alberta College of Art and Design’s Award of Excellence (1997), the Ontario Association of Art Galleries award for best curatorial writing on contemporary art (1999 and 2001), the Canadian Museums Association’s award for outstanding achievement in arts journalism (2002) and the medal of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art (2009).
