Edmonton Small Press AssociationEdmonton Small Press Association (ESPA) is a registered non-profit arts society, and since 1998 has maintained a growing Small Press Library & Archive (Infoshop), now represented by over 750 artists and collectives from 34 countries. Although limited in resources, ESPA presents thought-provoking & award-winning art exhibits, films & special guests, independently and through our “North of Nowhere Expo”, a festival of independent media & underground art (highlights have included The Beehive Collective and The Yes Men).

In 2010 ESPA produced their first large-scale community Mural Project which has since received an “Award of Excellence” by the 2011 Edmonton Urban Design Awards and a Medal by the 2012 National Urban Design Awards (Royal Architectural Institute of Canada). ESPA is also a recipient of the Edmonton Social Planning Council’s 2010 “Award of Merit for Advocacy for Social Justice”.

ESPA has a growing technical inventory including an LCD projector, sound equipment and more, and encourages other artists & activists to become a member and collaborate on producing more local film screenings and art exhibits.

Between 2013-2015 ESPA will be long-term strategizing, with a focus on recruiting more Board and Committee Members, improving their governance and policy initiatives, and eventually raising large funds to purchase our own home to operate out of.

ESPA is currently seeking more artists & arts-advocates to join our Board governance team, which includes producing more local ‘small press’ programming at our new downtown location; general fundraising; communications; and acting as general ambassadors at conferences, markets & fairs. Board Directors are expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week (in-person and online) and terms are one full year (Nov 1 to Oct 31), though a 2-year commitment is preferred. E-communications are an essential component to successful Board positions.

Please send ESPA a letter of interest & related experience if you are able to participate in this exciting next stage of their evolution: contact@edmontonsmallpress.org or 780-434-9236. Join them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/EdmontonSmallPress/
