Media MovesMaurice Tougas is now reporting for Metro News Edmonton. Formerly a weekly columnist for the Edmonton Examiner before he resigned to run as a Liberal MLA for Edmonton Meadowlark,  he successfully defeated incumbent Progressive Conservative Bob Maskell. After his decision not to seek re-election, he became a columnist for Edmonton’s SEE magazine until it ceased publishing in September 2011. Ziyah Karmali, Miss Edmonton 2010 and formerly a French immersion teacher in Spruce Grove and now currently completing her Master of Education degree with the help of a full scholarship is the new arts reporter at BreakfastTV Edmonton.

Chris Allen, long time host of Arts Alive and producer of programs ranging from jazz to classics and mixed music, as well as travel, books, theatre, medical, and senior issues is retiring in September after 36 years at CKUA. Search is on for his replacement. They’ll have big shoes to fill. Also, at CKUA Brian Dunsmore is now the Executive Producer of Community Outreach and Special Events. Taking over his duties, with an added focus on digital content production, is Adam Fox, formerly Station Manager at CJAM FM, a nonprofit campus based community radio station in Windsor, Ontario. Also new to CKUA is Matt Nudge, their news producer.

Radio West reports that JOE FM in Edmonton has relieved Morning Man Gary James and PM Drive guy Boyd Leader of their duties along with the two JOE FM drive time jocks, Jennifer Starko, one time right hand gal for Doug Rutherford. They also report that Ryan Lindsay (formerly of Hot 89.9 Ottawa) is heading to Calgary to take over the morning show on AMP Radio to replace Kris Mazurak who left AMP unexpectedly in April.

Brian “Hurricane” Smith has left Q 107 in Calgary. In 1981, he helped launched CISN in Edmonton and is now offering video production and mobile DJ services in Calgary.  Q 107 just announced that Jeff Woods will be the afternoon drive host starting on August 20, 2012. The Jeff Woods Show will air weekdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and feature Woods sharing stories and personal anecdotes from a long and successful broadcast career focused on the classic rock genre and the artists that defined an era.

In Edmonton Jonny Sullivan from The Bear in Ottawa will soon be joining J’Lyn in mornings at Joe FM and from Toronto’s Q107, Alex Hindmarch with take over the Rhubarb patch PM Drive slot.

Kerry Campbell is no longer doing middays on Capital-FM (CKRA) in Edmonton. There’s a search on for her replacement.

Brenda Finley formerly with CKUA and before that with Global TV Calgary, is now senior producer at Alberta Primetime.

Calgary KooL 101.5 announced today the launch of KooL Breakfast with Tarzan Dan and Niki. Tarzan Dan will join current KooL 101.5 personality Niki Reitmayer every weekday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. starting Tuesday, August 7th.
