National Magazine Awards, Alberta nomineesThe National Magazine Awards Foundation has released their 2011 shortlist of 362 nominees in 45 categories from 81 different Canadian magazines. Gold, Silver and Honourable Mention awards will be announced at the 35th National Magazine Awards on June 7 in Toronto. Alberta based nominees include: Eighteen Bridges (recipient of an Alberta Magazine Award for Best New Magazine) with an impressive ten nominations and Omar Mouallem’s “Under the Veil,” recent winner of our Best Alberta Story award. AlbertaViews and Swerve are also strong contenders, for awards in categories ranging from Essays and Investigative Reporting to Humour and Society. A new Alberta-based magazine, Uppercase, received a nomination for Art Direction for an Entire Issue.
