CKWB-FM broadcasts at 97.9 FM in Westlock, Alberta. The station also serves the Barrhead area. Owned by Newcap Radio, the station airs a country music format branded as 97.9 The Range. Over the years, the station has gone through different brandings, formats and ownerships and for many years broadcast at 1370 on the AM dial under the call letters CKOK. On October 8, 2009, CFOK applied to convert from the AM dial to the FM dial at 97.9 FM. The station received CRTC approval on February 19, 2010. In August 2011, 1370 CFOK began testing on their new frequency at 97.9 FM. On September 6, 2011, 1370 CFOK dropped its classic hits format and made its official move to FM 97.9 as “97.9 The Range” with its new call sign CKWB-FM and a country music format joining thirty eight other Newcap radio stations in Alberta, eight of them sharing a country format. Hosts include Nick Gulka, mornings from 6am to noon, Christopher Theil from 10 to 6pm and Raymond Rutledge, news and sports announcer.
