The Westlock News is an award-winning weekly newspaper that serves the town and county of Westlock, as well as the Village of Clyde. Westlock is located approximately 85 kilometers north of Edmonton in the heart of Alberta’s rich agricultural land. While service and support play a vital role to the local agricultural industry, other local businesses provide professional services for oil, forestry, gas and coal. Over $50 million in development permits were issued for the town from 2003-2005. Westlock is well serviced by major highways, rail and an airport. The News has grown with the Town of Westlock and surrounding area since 1901 and is the main source of news and information in the area. The page count runs between 20 to 28 pages. Circulation is around 4,000 copies distributed every Monday. They also print and publish Town and County, a second section that is inserted into sister papers: Athabasca Advocate, the Barrhead Leader and the Lac La Biche Post.
The Westlock News is owned by Great West Newspapers, LP. The president of Great West Newspapers is Duff Jamison, publisher of the St. Albert Gazette. Paul Rockley, publisher of the Okotoks Western Wheel, is executive vice president.
