Young & Free Alberta is powered by Servus Credit Union and is “an ongoing effort to give the 17 to 25 crowd a voice, a head start and useful information.” According to their website, Servus launched Young & Free in 2010 because they felt strongly that young people were not being well served by other financial institutions and didn’t have a voice when it came to getting what they needed from a financial institution. So they launched a search for a Spokester (spokesperson) and gave that person a platform: the Young & Free Alberta website. The ultimate goal of Young & Free Alberta is to help Servus Credit Union connect with young people and to help them understand how they can serve Alberta’s 17 to 25 crowd better than any other financial institution.
Dex Dunford from Okotoks Alberta is Young & Free’s current and second Alberta Spokester. His full-time job includes travelling, attending and speaking at events throughout Alberta and posting daily blog entries and weekly video blogs on the Young & Free Alberta website. Dex’s job is to listen and get thoughts and opinions about what 17 to 25 year olds say they need from their financial institution. Read their blog posting policies.
Complementing the Young and Free Alberta blog is a scholarship program they launched in 2011 that awards thirty $1,000 scholarships throughout the year. Scholarship winners 2011. Scholarship winners 2010.
