Gemini Awards 2011The  Gemini Awards The Gemini Awards intended to honour the best in Canadian television as determined by members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and other industry professionals were handed out in Toronto on September 7. Alberta film and television producers, actors and crafts people came up big. Edmonton’s Clearwater Documentary won two Gemini Awards for The Code Breakers – ‘Best Science and Nature Documentary’ and ‘Best Photography in a Documentary Program’. The one hour documentary, written, produced and directed by filmmaker Tom Radford and Arctic scientist Niobe Thompson, also won multiple awards at AMPIA’s Rosie Awards in May. Congratulations also go out to Calgary’s 24SEVEN Films for Alberta Watson’s ‘Best Performance in a Guest Role’ award for Heartland – Where the Truth Lies, and to Edmonton’s Prairie Dog Film & Television for Blackstone, which was awarded a Gemini for ‘Best Achievement in Main Title Design’. Blackstone is also nominated for two Gemini’s in the ‘Best Actress’ category, which will be awarded at the live Gemini Gala, on September 7, broadcast on CBC. We salute the winners, and all the Alberta nominees! The 2011 Gemini Awards were hosted by CBC’s Jian Ghomeshi and Comedian Steve Patterson.
