The Jim Pattison Group has announced its third annual Alberta Equity Scholarship Competition worth $2000 to the winning student. The Alberta Equity Scholarship was instituted in 2009 to address the shortage of Alberta broadcasters from four under-represented groups; Aboriginal Peoples, Persons with Disabilities, Members of Visible Minorities, and Women.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group believes that by supporting the career development of these groups in Alberta broadcasting, the industry will access an untapped pool of potentially talented employees, encourage diverse viewpoints and backgrounds, enhance relationships with local communities, and broaden the advertiser and audience base.

In 2009, the Scholarship went to Raeesa Merali, an Edmonton resident, then a radio student at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.  In 2010, the winner was Joey Sugai-an Aboriginal student at Lethbridge College.

Residents of the Province of Alberta who are planning to attend a recognized Broadcast Program at an Alberta post-secondary institution can access a scholarship information and application package at the websites of the Alberta stations of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, or through the Broadcast Programs at Alberta post-secondary institutions.
